How I Went from a Fat Lion Cub
to the KING of the Fitness Jungle

I was a fat kid.

I remember when I was 8 years old and getting weighed by a midget football coach. He was excited to have someone as big as I was on the team; however he was concerned about my weight. At 8 years young I was almost 100 pounds!

This is why I do what I do. I was terrified of being fat so I turned my life around.

I started lifting weights when I was 12 years old. Throughout high school I played every sport imaginable whether for a team or on my own. I read health, fitness and muscle magazines to get the edge. Yet, in spite of it all, by the end of my high school years I was not the rippling hulk I desired so much.

In college I majored in biology and exercise science in the University of Pittsburgh’s Pre-med Program. And I continued to read. I voraciously read every book and magazine I could get my hands on from nutrition to exercise and everything in between. If you needed an answer I could recite one like an encyclopedia.

During this time I started to seriously get into bodybuilding. In two years I gained 10 pounds of rock solid muscle and lost a huge amount of body fat. (NOTE: I gained more muscle mass than this sounds, however because I lost so much fat the total weight gained was only 10 pounds).

Everything was working and I loved it! That is until the summer of 2000 when everything crashed and burned. That dreadful June I seriously injured my back.

In one instant everything changed. I could no longer do the things I was doing. No more lifting, no more pounding steel, no more anything! I could barely bend over. As a result I started losing muscle mass. Talk about frustrating!

That’s when I started to look for another way to improve my body. What I discovered was a simple, yet amazing system to workout with my own body weight.

Gone are the massive weights pounding my neck, back and arms. Gone are the sweaty gyms, the grunts, groans and screams. And gone are the injuries that nearly crippled me for life.

While I was learning to use my own body weight to build muscle, burn fat, (and a whole list of other awesome benefits) I started researching other ways to improve my body. That’s why in 2003 I decided to go back to school and study massage therapy.

Coming from a strict medical background some of the things I was learning about - a holistic style of living - were a hard sell. But with an open mind I learned more in one year than in two decades.
